Norway Emigration
British citizens travelling to Norway do not require a visa.
Work and residence permits
EEA nationals do not require a work permit in Norway, but if you find employment in the country during the sixth-month period you are permitted to stay in Norway, you are required to apply for a residence permit at your local police station, with the following documents:
- Passport
- Two passport photographs
- Confirmation of employment from your employer
If you receive an offer of employment in Norway, and you are a resident in England or Wales, you need to apply for your work and residence permits through the Norwegian Embassy in London. If you are a resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you need to lodge the application through the Norwegian Consulate General in Edinburgh.
The processing of applications may take several months and you may not enter Norway while the application is in process. You must complete duplicate applications for each permit.
You must enclose the following documents with your work/resident permit applications:
- Passport/Travel document (must show evidence that you have been living in Britain for at least the last six months)
- Two recent passport photographs
- Fee of 90 Euros: in cash, postal orders or cheque, guaranteed by bank card
For work permit: "Offer of Employment" form, completed and signed by your future employer in Norway.
For residence permit:
- Recent bank statement confirming that you will be able to support yourself financially in Norway
- Proof of accommodation, such as a "Guarantee Form for Residence" (This form, GP7013 B/E, may be obtained by the residence in Norway from the local police department)
- For family members travelling with you: Separate applications must be completed (in duplicate). Spouse: Two recent passport size photographs, Marriage certificate. Child: Two recent passport size photographs,Birth certificate stating both the child's and the parents' names
The opening hours of the Embassy and Consulate General are Monday-Friday, between 10 am and 12 noon.
When a decision has been made about your application, you will be notified in writing by the Embassy or Consulate General.
