Car Rental in the Netherlands
You will need a driving licence, passport or accepted form of ID and a credit card. You can rent a car for around 25-35 Euros a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed. You must be at least 19 years of age.
Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:
- Motorways: 100-120kph/60-80mph
- Open Roads: 80-100kph/50-60mph
- Towns: 50kph/30mph
The Dutch drive on the right-hand side of the road.
Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Dutch roads are among the most contemporary in Europe.
Fire and third party liability insurance is mandatory and is included in all rentals. Cars rented in the Netherlands are not allowed into the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine and Yugoslavia.
