Car Rental in Spain

You will need a driving licence, passport or accepted form of ID and a credit card. You can rent a car for around 25 Euros a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed.

Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:

  • Motorways: 74mph/120kph
  • Dual Carriageways: 65mph/100kph
  • Built-up areas: 30mph/50kph
  • Residential areas: 12mph/19kph

The Spanish drive on the right-hand side of the road.

Roads can sometimes be dusty dirt tracks outside of the big cities. Immediately outside many towns are sensors which detect your speed as you approach the town. If you are over the speed limit, a traffic light at the edge of the town will automatically turn red, and you must come to a stop before entering the town. Two red lights mean non entry.

Jaywalking is illegal and its ban is vehemently enforced. Generally, traffic on the right has priority.
