Car Rental in Monaco
You will need a driving licence, passport or accepted form of ID and a credit card. You can rent a car for around a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed. New residents must exchange their foreign licence for a Monegasque one within a year of acquiring residency.
Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:
- Motorway (Auto Route): 130kph and 110kph when raining
- Expressways: 110kph and 100kph when raining
- Twin lane roads: 110kph and 100kph when raining
- Regional roads: 90kph and 80kph when raining
- Built up area: 50kph
- Any time that visibility is less than 50m: 50kph
The Monegasque drive on the right-hand side of the road.
By law, a red warning triangle and a high-visibility vest must be carried in cars in case of breakdown. The warning triangle should be placed thirty metres ahead of the car in order to alert oncoming traffic.
