Car Rental in Italy
You will need a driving licence, passport and credit card. You can rent a car for around 20 - 30 Euros a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed.
Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:
- Expressways: 81mph/130kph
- Urban stretches: 55mph/90kph
- Dual Carriageways: 68mph/110kph
- Outside built-up areas: 68mph/110kph
- Built-up areas: 30mph/50kph
Italians drive on the right-hand side of the road.
The middle lane of three-lane roads is for passing. Passing on the right is permitted when the driver ahead has signaled a left turn and has moved to the centre of the road or when multiple lanes are travelling in your direction. Don't be alarmed to find Italians paying remarkably little attention to lane definition (read: they drive all over the road).
Police have the right to confiscate your licence and to charge fines on-the-spot.
