Day-to-day Living in Thailand

There is a large expatriate community living in Thailand. You'll find war veterans, student Westerners, and many who have emigrated. In addition to permanent and long-term residents, there is a big travel culture. Thailand is very popular with tourists, and is a very welcoming country.

Thai people call Westerners 'farang' (foreigner). They may often use this term when talking to you. It should not be taken insultingly.

Groceries

You can get nearly everything in Thai grocery stores, from luxurious ingredients to health foods. Relocating to Thailand will not mean your diet must change. You will find a slightly more familiar selection of groceries in the expatriate pockets of the country. In fact, there are four well-known Western supermarket brands operating all over Thailand, the most recognisable of which being Tesco.
