  1. Still a good business move?

hey there, me and the husband are planning to move our film collectables store to the usa (maybe even keep our existing one in the uk too) but we're unsure if this is such a good idea now. it is such a hard decision when all the advice we're getting is so mixed. some people seem optimistic for business in the coming year, others not. &l

Hi, I would be interested in knowing whether it would be a good move to expand my cleaning company to the US. How would you go about doing this?

Communications in the US

Post

There are postal offices in nearly every town. The postal service and all the mail travelling within it are protected by federal law for privacy and service. The service is very reliable and very fast.

Airmail to Europe takes between 3 days and one week.
Post office hours are Monday to Friday 0830-1630 (24 hours at main offices in larger cities).

Telephone

The country code is 1. For emergency police, fire or medical services in major cities, dial 911. All phone numbers within the USA consist of a three-digit area code and a seven digit local number.

Mobile

Mobile, or cell, use is more popular than ever. The landline is very much in decline. Service providers vary from state-to-state.

Voice over Internet Protocol

VoIP is a new technology which allows users to verbally communicate through their computer. Essentially a telephone call made using the internet, VoIP is becoming increasingly more common in the business world due to its low costs, and easy set-up and maintenance.

Forget installation engineers and phone number changes, as long as you have a broadband connection, you can use VoIP any time, any where.

For businesses, this software is sure to eventually phase out the traditional phonecall. For as low as 4p for local and national calls, the economical potential is vast. With international calls often even less than that, VoIP is perfect if you are prone to long-distance telecommunication, or have offices, clients, partners, etc, overseas. What's more, calls made between VoIP users are typically free all you pay for is the standard internet service.

Internet

Use of the internet is commonplace in the US, and is a fundamentally accepted way of life. Access is easy, availability is plentiful, its use very popular. E-mail has become a standard form of communication between companies and social circles, and there will be an expectation for friends and businesses to be online.
