Portugal Emigration

Because both the United Kingdom and Portugal are members of the European Union, visas are not required to visit, work or stay, for a period of up to three months.

However, if you wish to reside and work in Portugal after said three months, you are obliged by law to apply for a residency permit. Workers who wish to stay in Portugal for longer than three months will need to acquire a work permit. For those that are classed as seasonal workers will not require a permit, providing the longevity of their work does not surpass eight months. For those whose activities in Portugal will exceed three months but not twelve months, a temporary residency permit will be issued. Those who, indeed, will stay and work in Portugal for up to or over a year will be issued a five year residency permit which is renewable for ten years. Those whom provide services or are commissioned will require a temporary permit, which is valid for the duration of their operations. It is renewable upon application for extension. The permit most applicable here, perhaps, is for self-employed workers, whom will be issued with the five year residency, and again is renewable for ten years.
