VAT registration in Germany
WW+KN Wagner Winkler & Collegen GmbH is a tax consultancy office assisting foreign companies with the VAT registration and VAT accounting in Germany.
Foreign companies can register in Germany for VAT reporting without the need of forming a local company or branch – known as non-resident VAT trading. The VAT ID number must be in place before the start of the taxable deliveries or services. There are strict rules to follow in regard to the requirements of a German VAT registration.
Common scenarios which require a registration are:
- Import of goods to Germany;
- Organizing live events, conferences, etc. in Germany;
- Passenger transport by a foreign company in Germany;
- Holding goods in a warehouse as stock for resale (especially consignment stocks and Amazon fulfilment warehouses)
- Buying goods within Germany which are resold in Germany or to other countries;
- Distance selling over the threshold e.g. by Amazon dealers or using Amazon fulfilment services (FBA) in Germany.
In general, the VAT registration process takes about two to six weeks but this can vary. It always depends on the single case, the responsible tax authority, etc.
WW+KN is able to assist you in the process of a VAT registration, general VAT compliance, VAT consulting, INTRASTAT, EC sales list as well as with an application for an EORI number.
