Back to News

Sovereign Trust (Hong Kong) Limited is excited to announce the appointment of Margaret Fung as its new Managing Director.

This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Sovereign’s Hong Kong business which is increasingly focused on corporate inbound business from China, assisting with the set up and structuring of pre-IPO trusts and the provision of corporate services to listed companies.

Today’s announcement follows the recent appointments of Elaine Liu as Head of Business Development - Capital Markets, and Joseph Sit as Head of Corporate Services. This also comes at the same time as our imminent move, after 22 years on Hollywood Road, to new offices on Queens Road Central.

“We have been focussed on the development of our Hong Kong office, watching the ever-evolving business landscape there,” said Sovereign Group CEO Gerry Kelly. “With her wide-ranging experience within the financial and professional services sectors, across business development, marketing, operations and strategy, Margaret was a clear choice to lead Sovereign Trust Hong Kong into the next phase of its development.”

Margaret was previously Head of Hong Kong Market and Board Member at the TMF Group,

Before joining TMF, she worked in China for Lexisnexis, firstly, as Director of Strategy and Marketing for Greater China, and latterly as General Manager, China.

Margaret attended Sacred Heart Canossian College in Hong Kong and gained a Bachelor of Business Administration (major in Marketing) from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (USA). More recently she has continued her professional development, gaining Certificates on the roles of Listed Company Director and Independent Non-Executive Director from the Hong Kong Institute of Directors (HKIoD) as well as Certificate of the Stanford University Senior Leadership Program offeredby the Rock Centre for Corporate Governance. A native Cantonese speaker, Margaret is also fluent in English and Mandarin.

We advise on all aspects of the design and implementation of structures, using companies, funds, trusts and foundations, and we also provide the support to maximise opportunities and achieve long-term sustainability.

We further provide the necessary expertise in administering and managing companies, including company secretarial services, company law, board procedures, director responsibilities and shareholder relations, and financial and corporate compliance requirements. This enables a company’s owners to focus on their primary business.

Sovereign Trust (Hong Kong) Limited and its operating sister companies – Sovereign Fiduciaries (Hong Kong) Limited, Sovereign Fiduciaries Services Limited and Sovereign Trustees Limited – all hold Trust or Company Service Provider (TCSP) licences from the Hong Kong Companies Registry.

In 2003, Sovereign Group Chairman Howard Bilton established the Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF), a Hong Kong-based charity with a twin focus: to recognise the growing wealth of contemporary art talent in Asia and bring the proven benefits of expressive arts to disadvantaged children.

The annual Sovereign Asian Art Prize was launched the same year to raise money to fund these programmes and to provide an international showcase for artists in the region. The Prize is now recognised as the most prestigious annual art award in Asia-Pacific and has enabled many artists to achieve record prices and wider audiences for their work. Notable successes include Adrian Wong, Debbie Han, Haris Purnomo, Jeongmee Yoon, Qi Zhi Long, Rashid Rana and Yang Yongliang, amongst others.

SAF has since extended this model to an African Art Prize, a Portuguese Art Prize and over 10 Students Art Prizes and, in doing so, has raised nearly US$10 million for artists and charities worldwide.
