A free-to-access short online programme to help you start a business or become self-employed in England.

Who it’s for

Adults over the age of 19 interested in exploring self-employment or starting a business.

The programme is not available in the following regions: Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, West and South Yorkshire, North East, Tees Valley, Cambridge and Peterborough, Bristol and Bath.

What you can get

A short course designed to help you explore self-employment and start a business. It supports people at all stages of starting up, including people who are within the first year of trading.

Topics covered include:

  • grants and loans
  • tax and expenses
  • business planning
  • creating your offer
  • selling your products or services

Participants can also gain two enterprise qualifications and invaluable advice from business owners.

Courses run online every week, visit the website to register your place.

Learners who have completed the Kick off in Business course have the option to progress onto further courses focussing on digital promotion and digital skills.
