Hello! Is Dubai really as liberal as I'm told? It is still a religious place isn't it? I can't seem to find any certain information on this.  

Dubai is still an arab country and as such strict rules apply, but due to sheikh's drive to bring in tourism it is much slacker than some of the neighbouring emirates. For example woman are allowed to walk the streets showing flesh, alchohol is legal within bars which are always confined in hotels or specialist areas. It is fastly becoming westernised with the growing population of westerners either setting up a business or working over there.

Dubai is a lot more liberal than its regional neighbours, but it has been called a country of contradictions. For instance, in certain hotes and bars you can drink cheaply, but are not allowed to be drunk on the street.
Religion is still integral to society, and with an 80% expat citizenship, you can imagine its a delicate balance.
