Getting to Austria

Flights to Austria are fairly affordable and short at just one and a half hours.

The main international airport is Wien-Schwechat in Vienna. Other international airports are in Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Linz and Salzburg. Vienna's airport is served by several international airlines. At the airport, taxis are available and cost between EUR 30 – 40 to the centre of Vienna. It is possible to pre-book taxis with various private taxi companies at a fixed rate (between EUR 30 – 40 to the centre of Vienna). Alternatively one can use the CAT train (every 30 minutes) or the “S-Bahn” (train) From Zurich, Frankfurt and Munich there are convenient train connections to western and central Austria.

Pets are permitted but are limited to only five animals. Each pet must have an electronic identification system or a clearly readable tattoo. Austria is part of the PETS scheme, rendering your pet exempt from quarantine. Check with the airline before you fly for their regulations and prices for pet transportation.

What is the PETS scheme?

The PETS scheme (Pet Travel Scheme) is an agreement which was made by several EU countries to allow the movement of pets between these countries free of quarantine regulations. Since its introduction, other non-EU countries which are free from the rabies virus have subscribed to the PETS scheme.
