FINANCING  BUSINESS

When looking for finance for an investment overseas, your accountant and your bank can be generally the first port of call. A detailed and well-researched business plan will be necessary and success will depend on the feasibility of your project and other factors.

After that, you may want to take advantage of public aid in the country you are targeting, which generally have specific plans for foreign investors or their systems of incentives do not discriminate between local and foreigners.

In its effort to foster investment, employment, competitiveness and economic growth, the Spanish government has developed a wide range of aid instruments and incentives, with special emphasis on fostering indefinite-term employment and on research, development and technological innovation.

Moreover, the fact that Spain is a EU Member State enables potential investors to benefit from European aid programs, which makes incentive plans in Spain even more conspicuous.

Crossing the opportunities, you will have more chance to find funding if your business is involved in:

  • Training and employment
  • R&D
  • Renewable energy
  • Tourism industry
  • Audiovisual industry

There also regional incentives, aimed to foster industry in particular areas of the country, incentives for small and medium enterprises (SME), programs to support export from Spain.

A comprehensive, detailed and up-to-date .pdf guide is downloadable from the section Incentives of the official website of the Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio: www.investinspain.org.

Other website you may wish to have a look at, in particular for European aids and grants are: www.eib.org (The European Investment Bank) and http://ec.europa.eu/grants/index_en.htm
