Car Rental in Hungary

You will need a driving licence, passport or accepted form of ID and a credit card. You can rent a car for around 4000 HUF a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed.

Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:

  • Motorways: 120kph/80mph
  • Dual Carriageways: 80kph/50mph
  • Other: 50kph/30mph

Hungarians drive on the right-hand side of the road.

Outside built-up areas, headlights must be used night and day; motorcycles must use them everywhere. The use of horns is not allowed in built-up areas between 10pm and 6am; headlights, rather, should be used to give warning. In Budapest and other towns and villages along main roads, horns are not allowed except in the case of immediate danger.
